2013 University of Ottawa Chairs in University Teaching

As part of the Destination 2020 strategic plan, the University of Ottawa's Chairs in University Teaching underscore the University's commitment to instructional excellence by:

• Promoting innovative teaching and learning practices that will benefit the University community;
• Recognizing the value of educational leadership and excellence in University Teaching; and
• Supporting professors committed to the scholarly investigation of teaching and learning, translating to University wide transformation of instructional practices.

Appointment

Each of two Chairholders will receive a three-year non-renewable appointment and an annual fund of $15,000. To highlight the significance of this appointment, each Chairholder's Faculty will provide one assistantship (130 hours per year).

During their appointment, each Chair in University Teaching will work collaboratively with the Centre for University Teaching (CUT) to play an active role in the promotion of teaching excellence in all sectors of the University community. Chairholders will lead a three-year program, with implications on the broader University teaching community, which will relate to either a:

• Significant transformation of teaching and learning practices in their field;
  and/or
• Scholarly development and research in the field of University Teaching.

Chairs in University Teaching will also serve as keynote speakers at CUT and University of Ottawa events which may include: the New Professor Orientation Program, the Teaching Assistant Orientation Program, and CUT conference or lecture events. In addition to the submission of an annual progress report, Chairholders will disseminate the results of their scholarly work (via conference or lecture presentations and articles) and give a public presentation in the final year of their program.

Eligibility

Candidates for a Chair in University Teaching must be full-time tenured Faculty members who have:

• A record of excellence in teaching and strength in research;
• Leadership in University Teaching within their Faculty and/or department;
• A demonstrated interest in the examination and development of transformative teaching and learning practices/initiatives; and
• A fairly broad range of teaching experiences at various levels and within different teaching contexts, including graduate student supervision.

Publications related to teaching and learning in higher education will be considered an asset.

Submission Requirements

Submissions for a Chair in University Teaching must include:

• A cover page
• A recent curriculum vitæ;
• A detailed teaching dossier (refer to the submission guidelines);
• A detailed project description;
• A letter of support from the Dean of the candidate's Faculty;
• Letters of support from colleagues and students;
• A description of the candidate's proposed contributions to their Faculty and the greater university community; and
• The submission package checklist.

Deadline

The submission deadline is March 15, 2013 at 5:00 pm.

Eight copies of your submission package, including all items listed in the aforementioned submission criteria, must be submitted in print to the Centre for University Teaching at:  Vanier Hall (room 1001), 136 Jean Jacques Lussier, K1N 6N5.

Successful candidates will be contacted during the second week of April and will begin their appointment on May 1, 2013.
